8.27.2012 – Fur Ball

Thanks, San Diego Humane Society for all you do to help homeless animals find homes!

Last Saturday was the 26th Annual Fur Ball, the San Diego Humane Society’s major fundraiser of the year. Complete with fine dining, an auction and live entertainment this year’s theme was Polynesian Paradise. Although I wasn’t able to attend, I was happy to see that it was actually, SOLD OUT! I like knowing there are so many animal loving people in San Diego County!

8.24.2012 – Operation Homefront

An Iliad at La Jolla Playhouse through September 9.

Tonight I went to see an amazing show at the La Jolla Playhouse called An Iliad. Although it is referred to as a one man show, there are actually two characters; the Poet and the Musician.

The Poet is the main character. He is an engaging storyteller that takes the audience on a tour of the major wars in history with a focus on both the factual and mythical aspects of the Trojan war. The Musician whose main voice is his instrument, the double bass, also known as the string bass is placed within the audience while the Poet remains on stage throughout the performance. Together they are a powerful team evoking emotions from the audience from laughter to sadness, all stemming from the topic of war.

I don’t want to discuss too many specifics in case you decide to see the play, but it does bring to light the prevalence of war, then and now. At the root of war is people. On the front lines throughout history there has been young people, people with families and all types of individual personalities fighting for honor, land and resolutions. With war also comes pain, deprivation and sacrifices in different forms.

Unlike some periods of war highlighted in An Iliad, today there are groups in place that support our service men and women in need. One such organization that provides various types of assistance is Operation Homefront Southern California. Private lender, Source Capital is affiliated with a number of community organizations and this is one of them. You can find out more about Operation Homefront and the services they provide at the link below.

8.20.2012 – Theatres for Sale

Usually when I think of real estate, I think of houses or empty lots to build on. Even when I think of commercial or investment property, I have a vision of office buildings or multiple family apartment complexes. But real estate comes in all forms!

A local playwright I know has been looking for rehearsal space for his upcoming play. That got me thinking how cool it would be to own a theatre! I love both film and stage, so any type of theatre would be fun for me! It would be great to have the space available to use for myself and events and shows I would want to put on. But it would also be a great investment property. It could be rented out for parties, private showings, theatrical productions and rehearsals, depending on the type of space it was.

Here’s some links I found for theatres for sale in California.

This Oakland theatre was once described as the Apollo of Northern California!

Own a theatre designated as historic property by the City of Los Angeles!

How about a California movie theatre in small town Willows, California?!

Or the Beverly Hills Fine Arts Theatre in Los Angeles County?!

Own a piece of Hollywood History and a Los Angeles landmark theatre!

Whether you want to purchase a theatre, restaurant, apartment complex or a single family home, when it comes to funding don’t take no for your final answer! Give Source Capital a try! 8.17.2012 – California Selling

California real estate sales on the rise.

Wooh! We are back to Friday once again. I am looking forward to the weekend. I hope you are too. I have mentioned before about the fact that nobody knows how long the real estate market will favor buyers as it has been now for years. There is beginning to be more reports that property sales are increasing. This, of course is great for the economy. But as the demand for real estate increases and the supply lessens, prices will be driven higher.

If you have been considering taking advantage of the California and Arizona buyer’s markets, now is the time to purchase. Below is an article highlighting California buying trends for July of this year.

Home Sales Rapidly Increasing in California

California dreaming has become California selling.

8.16.2012 – Got Millions?

Just one of the many happy La Jolla residents.

La Jolla is a beautiful southern California location. Known for the scenic drive along the water complete with various ocean loving birds and bathing sea lions. The latter of which has created controversy at times, it is also known for high end real estate.

Some people reading this may live in La Jolla. I do not. Because I don’t live there nor do I own an expensive home, it can be fun to drive around the area to admire these gorgeous properties. Currently there is one such piece of real estate on the market. It is the home of a television producer and writer for the shows, Barney Miller and Night Court. Below is a link to a Union Tribune San Diego article that highlights this four building oceanfront estate. The story is accompanied by a photo gallery so you can view the home’s interior, as well as its lovely ocean views.

Beautiful La Jolla waters and ocean friendly wildlife.

8.13.2012 – Heat Wave

I have a new appreciation for ice.

Welcome to another Monday and another day of this unfathomable heat wave! If you are in San Diego, Los Angeles or elsewhere in California, you have most certainly been faced with the challenge of staying cool the last several days. Other western states, including Arizona has been plagued with scorching triple digit temperatures too.  Personally, I am favoring the air conditioned indoors to any outdoor option. However, many have been trekking to the cooler beach areas, lured by the thought of taking a refreshing dip. Of course, since the Discovery Channel’s all popular Shark Week is now underway I am less than enthusiastic about taking an ocean plunge. But I know some of you are braver than I am. Especially when the relief of a water splashing cool off outweighs the potential risk of meeting up with a large toothed sea creature.

I know we all have work to do, but if you are like me you are taking it easy as much as possible in response to the extreme heat. Laying low, conserving energy and trying to keep your body temperature down. Here is some important reading for you, as you take time to chill; literally and figuratively.

Million dollar home sales increase in California.

As highlighted in the San Diego Union Tribune article at the link above, growth in home sales will ultimately drive pirces upward. Supply and demand determines cost, regardless of the industry. This shift in real estate is a reminder that the current buyer’s market may not always be as it is. If you have been considering taking advantage of the low property prices, you may want to move forward soon. The longer the wait, the higher the prices may go.

If it is lack of funding that is keeping you from taking the steps towards a purchase, I encourage you to contact Source Capital’s private money loan experts, Sacha Ferrandi and Pat Hook. In addition to purchasing real estate, you may be looking for other investment ventures. 8.9.2012 – Cowles Mountain

Continuing with my mountain theme for the week I thought I would venture to a hiker’s favorite, Cowles Mountain. Located within Mission Trails Park in an area of East San Diego County known as San Carlos, Cowles Mountain has an elevation of 1,592 feet. It is actually the highest point in San Diego County. Its main hiking trail is one of the most popular in the area and offers a 360 degree view.

San Carlos is located near La Mesa, Santee and San Diego’s, “College Area” where you can find the home of the Aztecs, San Diego State University.

If you are interested in being close to this hiker’s haven, check out available homes for sale in San Carlos at the link below.

8.6.2012 – Mt. Shasta

This is not Mt. Shasta. But well… you get the idea.

Okay. So we’ve talked beach. We’ve talked desert. What’s left? How about mountains?! Today I want to focus on Mount Shasta. When I made my big move down from Seattle to San Diego one place that really made an impact on me along the way was Mount Shasta.

Located just over the Oregon border with similarly abundant green trees and natural beauty as seen in the Pacific Northwest, this northern California town is located less than a five hour drive from big city San Francisco. Find out more about Mount Shasta, the town and the mountain itself at the link below.
